Description
This cacao was grown by a collective of 13 farming families off the Caribbean Coast, inter-cropped with cedar, walnut, zapote, medlar, citrus, corn and beans. These biodiverse cacao farms allow for a prosperous alternative way of life to the unsustainable mono-cropping of bananas that is wide spread in this part of Colombia.
The front of this box shows a close up of a cacao pod. Cacao can only grow 30 degrees north and south of the equator.
The artwork on the package was completed by Kristofer Parley. Kristofer is a Victoria based artist who focuses on working with water colours and ink. We met him our first year in St. Andrews while he was staying in town for the KIRA Artist Residency. For more information on him please visit the Staying Creative Studio.
